When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.”

About the Farm
David and Ann raise grassfed, grass-finished beef cattle. They are interested in
all the practices that will help us keep our topsoil and nutrients on our hilly
acres, while ensuring a low-stress environment for our animals. They are
converting their cropland into hay-fields and pastures, which they feel is more
suitable to the topography of their farm. They maintain their stream borders to
avoid erosion and use a bedded pack composed of chopped straw and
wood chips in the cows’ winter quarters to increase cow comfort and decrease
nutrient loss by composting the manure. They also use cover crops, which they
feel aids their soil in a variety of ways. They test their stream water monthly as it
exits the farm to assess their progress on all of these fronts.
